The manuscript, titled "Coculture of Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescens in Immature Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) Frass for Liquid Biofertilizer Production", demonstrates a method to repurpose immature BSFL frass into an effective liquid biofertiliser. By incorporating B. subtilis and P. fluorescens, the study reduced phytotoxins and achieved viable cell counts meeting commercial standards. A four-month trial on chili plants showed the formulation can replace 40% of chemical fertiliser while improving plant growth and soil health.

This research was primarily conducted at Xiamen University Malaysia and supported by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) via the Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (POPSIG) under grants EENG0039 and EENG0052; the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia through the Fundamental Research Grant (FRGS/1/2024/WAS04/XMU/02/1) and the Public-Private Research Network (2024/XMUM/772); and the Xiamen University Malaysia Research Fund (XMUMRF/2024-C14/IENG/0075 and XMUMRF/2023-C12/IENG/0060).

The principal investigators acknowledge the contributions of research students Yuana Elly Agustin, Malvin Ma, and Liu Sitong from Dr. Tan's group, and Goh Cheng Kang, Lim Chen Xie, and Christal Winona Clyde from Dr. Erik’s group.
