Chemical Engineering Students Shines at BioRevolution 2026 Competition

Published on February 13, 2026

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre congratulates a team of Chemical Engineering undergraduate students from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), for being selected as one of the Top 5 finalists in the BioRevolution 2026 Competition. The competition was organised by the IChemE Student Chapter, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), in conjunction with the International Conference on Biomass, Biofuels and Green Transition (BioGreen 2026), held from 2 to 3 February 2026 at The Waterfront Hotel, Kuching, Sarawak.

The competition was conducted in two stages: a preliminary round consisting of a video presentation and infographic poster evaluation, followed by the final pitching session at the conference. The team - comprising Chua Zhee He, Choy Jian Xuan, and Lim Min Fong, supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yee Kian Fei - delivered an in-person pitching presentation to experts from academia and industry on the topic "Engineering Circular Economy Pathways for Coconut Waste Valorisation in Malaysia".

Their presentation addressed coconut waste challenges through a practical and systematic eco-industrial park and industrial symbiosis approach. This achievement highlights the team's strong application of chemical engineering principles, innovation in circular economy, sustainability, and green processes.

The team acknowledges the continuous support from Xiamen University Malaysia, the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, and the Xiamen University Malaysia Research Fund (XMUMRF/2025-C16/IENG/0081).
