XMUM Participants Win Best Presentation Award at 8th International Conference on Computer and Communication Systems

Published on May 10, 2023

The School of Computing and Data Science congratulates Zheng Peng, Chen Yanhao and Dr. Burra Venkata Durga Kumar from Software Engineering Programme for receiving the best presentation award at the 8th International Conference on Computer and Communication Systems.

Entitled “Regional Intelligent Traffic Signal Control System Based on Multi-agent Deep Reinforcement Learning”, this research focused on urban traffics congestion, aiming to improve the efficiency of vehicle traffic and ease traffic congestion in the road network.

Intelligent traffic signal control technology based on reinforcement learning can effectively alleviate traffic congestion. However, when reinforcement learning faces complex multi-agent decision problems, it is difficult for single-agent reinforcement learning algorithms to realize the complex relationships among multiple agents. Therefore, extending reinforcement learning to the multi-agent domain becomes an inevitable trend.

Based on reinforcement learning, multi-agents obtain optimal regional strategies through continuous interaction and improvement. Thus, this paper proposed a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning approach for regional intelligent traffic signal control, which would effectively reduce the Average Trip Waiting Time (ATWT) and the Total Waiting Queue Length (TWQL) of the vehicles in the area.

Hosted by Guangzhou University, the Conference was held in Guangzhou, China during April 21-24, 2023. It aims to serve as a premier forum for the presentation of technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied Computer and Communication Systems.
