SCDS Pens MoU with Wales Institute of Digital Information
School of Computing and Data Science (SCDS), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wales Institute of Digital Information (WIDI), UK, on 1 December 2023, marking a significant step towards enhanced collaboration in joint research, student exchange and staff development.
The signing ceremony was officiated by WIDI Director Prof. Andrew Ware from the University of South Wales (USW), UK and SCDS Deputy Dean Dr. Geetha Kanaparan. The MoU was coordinated by Dr. Mahdi H. Miraz, Head of SCDS postgraduate programmes, who is also a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of South Wales (USW), a key partner of WIDI.
This agreement paves the way for several exciting initiatives, including:
- Joint research projects: WIDI and SCDS will collaborate on research projects in areas of mutual interest, such as digital health, data analytics, blockchain, IoT and artificial intelligence.
- Student exchange programs: Students from WIDI and SCDS will have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs, gaining valuable international experience and broadening their academic horizons.
- Staff exchange programs: Academic and administrative staff from both institutions will be able to exchange knowledge and expertise through collaborative activities and workshops.
Commenting on the agreement, Prof. Andrew Ware said: “We are delighted to partner with the School of Computing and Data Science at Xiamen University Malaysia, a leading academic institution in Malaysia. This MoU will enable us to share our expertise and resources, contributing to cutting-edge research and fostering the next generation of digital leaders”.
Dr. Geetha Kanaparan, Deputy Dean of SCDS, added: “This collaboration will provide our students and staff with unique opportunities for learning and professional development. We are confident that this partnership will lead to significant advancements in the field of digital technology.”
