The Stellar Prize Returns to XMUM Campus to Showcase the Achievements of Communication Students
The fifth Stellar Prize (TSP) ceremony resumed physically after two years, with new open categories along with 19 other awards to celebrate the talents of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) students on 23 December 2022.
An annual award ceremony organized by XMUM Advertising and Journalism Student Councils, the event aims to showcase the excellence and achievements of communication students in the areas of design, writing and publishing, photography, and videography.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wang Changsong, Head of the Department of Journalism & Advertising Department and the event’s advisor said the award ceremony would become a university tradition to be carried on.
“We have organized this event since 2018, which was made possible by the efforts of the first batch of journalism and advertising students. Many are now continuing their master's and even PhD programs abroad. Some are acting as industry leaders, which makes us very proud of them.
“To the young students from the new generation who would bring TSP to a new level, I hope we can make this tradition carry on, year to another year,” he said in the opening speech given at the XMUM auditorium.
The first step to this long-term goal is introducing an Open Category consisting of the promotional video award, social media reels award, and photography award sponsored by Tecno Malaysia and Canon Malaysia this year, he added.
Ng Mun Ee, the winner of the promotional video award in the open category, said: “It was truly a remarkable and challenging experience. This was my first time filming a promotional video, and it opened up my horizons for the future. I am so grateful for the Stellar Prize for organizing this event.”
Yap Jin Mei, the winner of the social media reels award, said: “Winning this award is an affirmation to me to keep up with my work. Although I was sceptical about the results of this video when I first planned it, I stuck to my gun and got it done in the way I pictured.”
This year, submissions from the open category were open to all undergraduates in any Malaysian university.
Tam Xiao Xuan, the Organizing Chairperson of the event, said the event that showcased the talents of the students had ended on a positive note.
“Wrapping up the fifth Annual Stellar Prize and welcoming the new year, I would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to this event, and I look forward to the great work next year,” she said.
Some guests who attended the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhang Ying, Vice President of XMUM; Prof. Chen Binghui, the Dean of XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering; and Taiman Zheng, CEO of Tecno Malaysia.
