MIFFEST Campus Road Tour Brings Film Festival Insights to XMUM
On 4 May 2026, the School of Communication, Xiamen University Malaysia successfully hosted Zoom In Zoom Out: MIFFest in Motion Campus Road Tour, an exclusive session that peeled back the curtain on the inner workings of film festivals.
The event drew approximately 100 students and lecturers to attend, exploring topics ranging from cultural impact and branding to partnerships and industry trends.

The session was led by Mohd Sazni, Programme Manager of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST), who shared first-hand experience on how film festivals shape cinematic discourse and audience engagement. His talk, titled Zoom In Zoom Out, offered a deep dive into the strategic decisions behind curation, sponsorship models, and the evolving festival landscape.

The collaboration was spearheaded by Prof. Wang Changsong, Dean of the School of Communication, alongside Dr. Ang Bin Yee, Film and Screen Studies lecturer, who facilitated the dialogue between the MIFFEST team and the university community.

Attendees also received a preview of the Algorithm Organisms Exhibition – a boundary-pushing showcase that explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and moving images, set to run alongside the upcoming festival. As part of its campus outreach, MIFFEST also announced that the 9th Malaysia International Film Festival will take place from 18 to 25 July 2026, featuring a dynamic line-up of local and international films, such as South Korean cinema, Japanese cinema, and Hong Kong cinema. The Campus Road Tour is part of MIFFEST's broader effort to engage emerging film enthusiasts and future industry players at university level.
