XMUM Co-Hosts the 5th World Conference on Media and Mass Communication
It was a milestone for the Department of Journalism and Advertising, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) to co-host the 5th World Conference on Media and Mass Communication (MEDCOM 2019) earlier this month.
Themed Change in Media, Media for Change: Looking For New Paradigms, the fruitful event was held in Kuala Lumpur between 5 and 7 April 2019. It served as a platform for sharing knowledge relating to the future of media and mass communication, bringing together a range of academics, independent researchers, artists and activists to share the research findings, innovations, and experiences in the field of mass communication.
MEDCOM 2019 was chaired by Dr. Andrea Volterrani from University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. Also present at the inauguration session was Dr. Wong Lai Wan, Deputy Registrar of XMUM.
Dr. Wong Lai Wan delivered a speech at the conference.
Xiamen University Malaysia contributed actively during the conference. Three academics from XMUM Journalism programme - Programme Coordinator Dr. Wang Changsong, Mr. Luis M. Pazos and Dr. Jeyasushma Veeriah - presented their papers at the event, and Dr. Jeyasushma won the Session’s Best Presentation Award.
Dr. Wang Changsong grabbed the participants’ attention during his story-telling session. He spoke on the Asian cinema as a transcultural medium during the story-telling session.
It’s also worth mentioning that Dr. Wang Changsong delivered a speech about “Asian Cinema as Transcultural Medium” during the storytelling session on the second day of the conference, which aroused positive response from the participants.

Organised by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka, the conference provided researchers, academician, students and professionals with rich opportunities to exchange research ideas and explore potential collaborations.
