XMUM Expert Trains Malaysian Officials on Bioenergy
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Jian Ping, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Advancement and a Zero-Waste Economy (STARGAZE) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), conducted a bioenergy training programme for officers of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia on 19 December 2025.
The session focused on bioenergy analysis and strategic planning, providing technical guidance to SEDA officers on assessing resources, evaluating systems, and integrating bioenergy considerations into broader sustainable energy planning. This supported SEDA's role under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), including administering renewable energy initiatives and informing policy implementation.
The training coincided with Dr. Tan Jian Ping's appointment as National Bioenergy Technical Advisor to SEDA by Chief Executive Officer Dato' Hamzah Hussin. SEDA has appointed technical advisors at the national level for solar, wind, and bioenergy, with Dr. Tan Jian Ping providing advisory support in bioenergy.
Malvin, a PhD student in Chemical Engineering, assisted as a Technical Advisory Assistant and co-conducted the training session with Dr. Tan Jian Ping, contributing to technical discussions and knowledge sharing with the SEDA team.

SEDA Malaysia is the government agency responsible for managing and promoting sustainable energy development in the country, including renewable energy and energy efficiency programmes. Technical training sessions like this are part of SEDA’s efforts to strengthen internal capacity and technical expertise in support of its mandate.
