2025 Global Chinese Marine Science Symposium Held at XMUM
The 2025 Global Chinese Marine Science Symposium, together with the 14th Cross-Strait Symposium on Marine Science and the 11th Cross-Strait Symposium on Marine Environmental Monitoring and Forecasting Technologies, took place from 27 to 30 November, at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM).
This year marked the first joint organization of the two long-standing symposium series, aimed at strengthening academic exchange among Chinese marine scientists worldwide, fostering multi-dimensional cooperation, and expanding the platform from a Cross-Strait dialogue to a broader international network.
Hosted by XMUM, the symposium was co-organized by the State Key Laboratory of Marine Biogeochemistry of Xiamen University, the China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics, the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, the Fujian-Taiwan Strait Marine Ecosystem Observation and Research Station, the Fujian Key Laboratory of Land-Sea Interface Eco-Environmental Science, and the UN Ocean Decade Program COASTAL-SOS.
Under the theme "Marine Science and Technology in the Age of Intelligence", the symposium focused on four major areas:
• Physical oceanography and ocean remote sensing
• Marine chemistry and marine geology
• Marine ecology and fisheries resources
• Marine monitoring and forecasting technologies
The event gathered more than 130 scholars across the global Chinese marine science community, featuring 77 oral presentations and 11 posters, with keynote contributions from leading scholars including Academician Chen Zhen-Dong, Academician Dai Minhan, Prof. Chien Hua, Prof. Yang Ying-Jian, Prof. Bi Hong-Sheng, Prof. Shi Dalin, Dr. Wang Fan, and Prof. Zhang Yuzhong.
