XMUM Opens Arms to Over 550 New Students from China
557 students from China will start their college life at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on 1 October 2018.
This is the largest intake of Chinese students since the university’s inception.
The first batch of 100 students has reached the campus on 9 & 10 September, with 457 more to arrive by the end of this month. University staff and student volunteers take turns to pick up every new student at the airport to guide them through the immigration process and send them to the campus.
Since the Ministry of Education Malaysia currently requires all international students to achieve the specified English competency requirements for their intended undergraduate programmes within 12 months of arrival to Malaysia, the students from China are offered free English preparatory classes before the start of the semester. The university also helps the students to register for the English test – including IELTS, TOEFL, MUET and PTE – in advance, supporting them to attain the required score at the earliest possible time.
The orientation for incoming students will be held on 29 & 30 September and a variety of briefings and activities will be provided. Students are encouraged to take this opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus and get to know more about their future academic life.
Committed to build a multicultural campus, XMUM has admitted over 1,500 students from China and over 170 from 20 other countries and regions, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, South Korea. By the end of 2018, the total number of students in XMUM is expected to reach 4,050.
