XMUM Holds its Fourth Convocation Ceremony for the Graduating Class of 2022
Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) held its Fourth Convocation Ceremony in 4 sessions on 17 and 18 December 2022 for its graduating class of 2022. More than 2,500 graduands, their family members and friends, university staff, and distinguished guests attended the event during the weekend.

The Guests of Honour for the convocation are Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Guest Professor of Xiamen University (Session 1: 17 December morning), Dr. Chia Song Kun, Executive Chairman of QL Resources Berhad (Session 2: 17 December afternoon), Mr. Daryl Tan, Great Grandson of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the Founder of Xiamen University (Session 3: 18 December morning), and Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap, Executive Chairman of Sunsuria Berhad (Session 4: 18 December afternoon). They all gave inspiring speeches to the graduands, sharing insights and wisdom as well as heartfelt advice. XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang turned the tassels of the graduands on behalf of Xiamen University President.

Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting praised the competitiveness of XMUM graduates in their career or in academia as a testament to the standard and branding of this university.

Dr. Chia Song Kun highlighted the transformative power of education by recalling his own journey of learning and perseverance and shared his success formula with XMUM graduands.

Mr. Daryl Tan applauded XMUM’s commitment to upholding Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s spirit of selfless dedication to the noble cause of education and was proud to witness the university’s continued growth.

Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap shared his own success story and stressed the importance of having the right work attitude.

XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang encouraged the graduands to strive for greater success in their future endeavours and make the university proud.

Graduands came on stage to have their tassels turned by XMUM Preisdent and have this important moment of their lives witnessed by their family members and fellow students.
XMUM’s class of 2022 has a total of 1,200 graduands from 15 bachelor’s degree programmes and 2 master’s programmes, including 696 local Malaysian students and 504 international students.
Despite all the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, the graduating class of 2022 has demonstrated outstanding employment prospect, with many of them joining industry-leading companies, such as Deloitte, KPMG, EY, UOB Bank, OCBC Bank, Public Bank, AIA, Xiamen Airlines, Sunway Group, Genting Group, Astra Zeneca, Intel, Huawei, Tencent, Bytedance, Microsoft, Shopee, Jinko Solar.
Many graduands have received offers for postgraduate study from world-renowned universities, such as London School of Economics, University of Edinburgh, University of Manchester, from UK; Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, from US; National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, from Singapore; Australian National University, University of Queensland, University of Sydney, from Australia; as well as Peking University, Fudan University, University of Hong Kong, among many others.
