XMU Alumnus Mr. Gao Long Donates RMB 10 Million to XMUM
On 13 March 2024, the Ceremony for the Donation of RMB 10 million by Xiamen University (XMU) Alumnus Mr. Gao Long to Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) was held at the Ground Floor of the A3 Library.
On behalf of the university, XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang received the donation cheque from Mr. Gao Long. Prof. Zhu Chongshi, XMU President from 2003 to 2017, Mr. Zeng Guobin, Director of XMU Education Development Foundation, and Ms. Zhao Xiaohui, Secretary-general of XMU Education Development Foundation, witnessed the handover of donation. The ceremony was attended by members of the Society of Fujian Merchant Studies, outstanding Xiamen University alumni entrepreneurs, as well as XMUM staff and student representatives.
Mr. Gao Long, XMU Alumnus (Chemistry, 1980-1984) and Chairman of Fujian Lanhua Education Group and Yunnan Xianghua Education Group, gave an inspiring speech. As an alumnus of XMU, Mr. Gao Long was greatly inspired by the noble example of XMU Founder Mr. Tan Kah Kee, who dedicated all his wealth to the cause of education. As a parent of an XMUM student, Mr. Gao was proud of XMUM’s commitment to be not-for-profit, devoting all its surplus funds to research, scholarship and further development. As a promoter of education, Mr. Gao understood the pressure and challenges of building up a high-quality education institution. He hoped that his donation would encourage other XMU alumni entrepreneurs to contribute to the development of XMUM, helping the branch campus become a truly global university with a thriving multi-cultural campus.
XMU President from 2003 to 2017, and Honorary Director of Xiamen University General Alumni Association, Prof. Zhu Chongshi highly praised Mr. Gao Long’s generous contribution to XMUM. Prof. Zhu reminded all those present that XMUM was established as an act of historic reciprocation in memory of its founder’s selfless dedication to the noble cause of education. He was confident that XMUM would contribute to the further strengthening of the close ties between Malaysia and China. Prof. Zhu also pointed out that XMUM carries the expectation and hope of tens of thousands of XMU alumni. “We are very proud to see that within a few years, staff and students of XMUM have worked tirelessly to turn this campus into a vibrant and booming community.”
On behalf of the branch campus, XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Gao Long. “The anticipation of XMU alumni encourages us to continuously strive for improvement and perfection in our work.” Prof. Wang noted that, inspired by the noble example of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, alumni donation has become a cherished tradition of XMU. He hoped that the generous donation by Mr. Gao Long would be a great inspiration to other XMU alumni and XMUM staff and students, encouraging others to follow in his footsteps and pushing XMUM to achieve greater success in the future.
