Prof. Colin Grant, Vice-President (International) of the University of Southampton, UK, visited Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on 6 March 2018. Prof. Grant was accompanied by Prof. Rebecca Taylor, Southampton’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ASEAN, and his senior Malaysia advisor, Prof. Dato’ Navaratnam.

XMUM Assistant President Dr. Zhang Ying warmly welcomed the Southampton delegation on behalf of the university. Ms. Li Xiaowen, PA to President, then briefed the delegation on the current development progress of XMUM.

Prof. Grant expressed his excitement to visit XMUM and to establish a double sisterhood among Xiamen University China, XMUM, University of Southampton and its Malaysia Campus. 

“University of Southampton has been a long-established partner of Xiamen University China. Now, we are glad that the existing sisterhood between the two can be extended to include both Xiamen University Malaysia and University of Southampton Malaysia Campus,” said Prof. Grant.

Both sides are eager to establish close partnership and to explore potential areas of cooperation. During the meeting, collaborations in the areas of student and faculty mobility, research, postgraduate studies, summer and short-term programmes have been discussed. Both sides agreed to sign MOU and more specific agreements as soon as possible.

Prof. Yang Xiaoqing, XMUM Director of International Affairs, Prof. Wang Huiqiong, Director of Research and Innovation, and Ms. Wong Lai Wan, Deputy Registrar have also attended the meeting.
