Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Alibaba Cloud (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., marking the beginning of a new collaboration aimed at advancing digital training and education. The agreement was formalised during the Alibaba Cloud Global Summit 2025 in Singapore.

The MoU outlines a framework for joint initiatives in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), data intelligence, and cybersecurity education. It includes the development of training programmes, potential revenue generation from training products and cloud-based solutions, and the integration of laboratory applications.

Key components of the collaboration include:

Participation in the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP): This initiative supports students, educators, and institutions through practical training, industry certifications, internships, and real-world project experience in digital technologies.

Skills Development: The partnership aims to equip students and educators with relevant digital competencies aligned with industry needs in Malaysia and the region.

Talent Nurturing: Focus will be placed on cultivating local talent with technological capabilities and entrepreneurial mindsets.

Global Exposure: Opportunities will be provided for cross-regional visits, activities, and competitions to foster a broader understanding of innovation and digitalisation.

Advisory and Technical Support: Alibaba Cloud Academy will offer guidance and access to cloud technologies to support XMUM’s initiatives in digital transformation, Smart Education, and green development.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Wang Huiqiong, Assistant President of XMUM, and Mr. Huang Kun, Country Manager of Alibaba Cloud (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

Alibaba Cloud is the digital technology arm of Alibaba Group and plays a leading role in supporting cloud adoption and digital innovation across various sectors. Its Malaysian branch contributes to the country’s ongoing efforts in digital transformation and technological development.
