XMUM Forges New Collaborative Partnerships with 7 Global Universities
To offer a wide range of further study opportunities for its students, XMUM signed new collaborative agreements with 7 universities in 2020, namely University of Auckland, Massey University, Dublin Business School, University of Strathclyde, University of Malaya, Curtin University and Duke Kunshan University. So far, the University has established academic partnerships with 16 highly acclaimed universities who share similar strategic objectives and values in education, allowing XMUM students to progress into respective postgraduate programmes offered by partner universities after the completion of undergraduate study.
Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Publishes in Angewandte Chemie as First Author
Fourth-year undergraduate student Zhang Wenhao and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun, both from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, have published a review entitled “Z-Scheme Photocatalytic Systems for Carbon Dioxide Reduction: Where Are We Now?”, as the first author and the corresponding author respectively, in Angewandte Chemie International Edition. With an impact factor of 12.257, Angewandte Chemie International Edition is a peer-reviewed Q1 journal, ranking in the top 10% of chemistry and multidisciplinary category.
Alibaba Cloud Partners with XMUM to Empower Digital Talents for the Future
On 19 May 2020, XMUM signed an MOU with Alibaba Cloud, the data intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, to promote cloud-computing related education and skill development among XMUM staff and students through the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP). Staff and students of XMUM can join the Alibaba Cloud’s Student Education Program, where upon completion they will receive a certification from Alibaba Cloud.
9 New Programmes Launched in 2020
XMUM lunched 9 new academic programmes, including 3 undergraduate programmes, 4 master programmes and 3 PhD programmes, during 2020. Currently, the University offers 19 undergraduate programmes, 6 master programmes and 3 PhD programmes in total, covering a wide range of academic fields from arts, business, science, engineering to traditional Chinese medicine.
8 XMUM Faculty Members Receive 2020 MOHE Research Fund
Eight XMUM faculty members received Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) 2020 awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia, with a total allocated amount of RM 833,366. This is the third batch of successful FRGS applications by XMUM, continuing a year-on-year increase of the designated funding amount.
Dr. Ong Wee Jun Named Global Highly Cited Researcher Again in 2020
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering has been named by the Web of Science Group, Clarivate, as one of its Highly Cited Researchers in 2020. Their names are drawn from publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science citation index. This is the second year that Dr. Ong has been included in this list for his publications, which have an outsized influence across several fields.
Dr. Chew Kit Wayne Receives IChemE Global Award for Young Researcher 2020
Dr. Chew Kit Wayne from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering has been chosen as the winner of IChemE Malaysia Awards and IChemE Global Awards - Young Researcher 2020 due to his leading research in bioprocess engineering design and renewable energy. The IChemE Global Awards celebrate chemical, process and biochemical engineering excellence and are widely considered as the world’s most prestigious chemical engineering awards.
First XMUM Digital Career & Internship Fair Held Online
To provide students with opportunities to interact with a wide range of companies, and to help them better plan for their future careers, XMUM Career Services Office held the very first “XMUM Digital Career & Internship Fair” via the “ConnectNOW” app during 23-27 November 2020. 28 local and multinational companies joined as potential employers, offering internship and full-time opportunities to students from various programmes.
Students Shine in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions
In 2020, XMUM students have achieved excellent results in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, including a third place in the 24H Case Study-Business Challenge Competition 2020, a third prize and three finalist prizes in the 5G Season of OPPO TOP University Innovation and Technology Competition, a first prize in the 10th China E-commerce “Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship” Challenge Competition (Fujian Province), a grand prize in the International CEC 2020, 7 bronze prizes in the 6th “Internet+” Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition, etc.
