Prof. Lu Changyi Donates to Enhance XMUM's Landscape

Prof. Lu Changyi, an alumnus and faculty member of Xiamen University (XMU), donated 200,000 RMB to Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) in 2021 and bestowed names upon 3 corridors on the campus since then, contributing to the enhancement of the campus landscape.

The donation ceremony took place on 25 October 2023 at XMU Zhangzhou Campus. Prof. Wang Ruifang, the President of XMUM, received the donation on behalf of the University. Faculty and student representatives, along with over 50 MBA students from XMUM who were currently on a study tour in China, participated in the ceremony.

During his speech, Prof. Lu Changyi expressed his gratitude to Xiamen University and shared his experiences of his inaugural visit to XMUM in 2019. He was deeply moved by the dedication and resilience of the pioneers who were working tirelessly to develop the campus. This experience inspired him to support the growth of XMUM with the best he can do.

This time, Prof. Lu Changyi named one of the campus corridors as "Jia Yuan Corridor (嘉缘廊)", accompanied by an inscribed plaque. He said: "'Jia (嘉)' represents 'Kah' in the name of XMU’s founding founder, Mr. Tan Kah Kee, symbolizing kindness and goodness. 'Yuan (缘)' reflects the unbreakable bond between Malaysia and Xiamen University TKK College."

Prof. Lu Changyi unveiled the plague with Prof. Wang Ruifang

It is not the first time that Prof. Lu Changyi hasdonated to XMUM. In 2021, he named and inscribed plaques for two other corridors at XMUM campus: "Yu Ying Corridor (育英廊)", symbolizing the responsibility of lecturers to nurture talent, and "Xue Qin Corridor (学勤廊)", encouraging students to study diligently and contribute to their nation and society.

During the donation ceremony, he stated, "Being able to showcase my contributions in a foreign higher education institution is the greatest honor of my life."

Prof. Lu Changyi introduced the meaning of the previous 2 corridors

Prof. Lu Changyi's generous donation received high praise and gratitude from the faculty and students. Foo Fang Lee, an MBA student of the 2021/09 intake, said that this donation would inspire them to study hard, to give back to XMUM, and to make greater contributions to society in the future.

Currently, Prof. Lu Changyi serves as the Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Xiamen University Tan Kah Kee College. He also leads the Teaching Supervision Group at the College of Environment and Ecology at Xiamen University.
