Q1: Can you talk about yourself? 

My name is Carren, a freshman in Cyber Security programme. I come from Pontianak, Indonesia. During my free time, I prefer dancing and making clay. Throughout high school, I was involved in several projects as an active member of the Student Council. I also won some speech competitions as a school delegate. 

Q2: Why did you choose Xiamen University Malaysia?

First, XMUM is a great place to pursue higher education and experience global cultural exchange all at once. The students come from different backgrounds and cultures, so you can somehow experience a slice of the world. Second, XMUM provides great facilities to coordinate your academic and extracurricular activities, and there are tons of clubs you can join to develop your talent and build connections with others. 

Q3: What it is like to study at Xiamen University Malaysia?

The environment and the surroundings are similar to my hometown, so I don’t worry about being homesick. So far, the lecturers are all very kind and patient. They take their time to explain materials to make sure the students enjoy and understand what they’re learning. And even though XMUM is quite far from downtown, I’m pretty sure you will not get bored since the activities and facilities will keep you busy.

I live in the D1 building. The room has the aircond and there are pantries on each floor. It’s convenient for me to store food in the refrigerator or heat it in the microwave. The securities are also friendly and responsible. Studying at XMUM will surely be unforgettable. 

Q4: Tell us your future plan!

Honestly speaking, I don’t have any big plans for the future yet, but one thing for sure is that I will keep studying hard. After completing my studies, I would like to make use of my knowledge by contributing to making the internet a safer place and raising awareness about digital attacks as a cybersecurity professional.

Name: Lee Zi Hooi

Programme: Bachelor of Engineering in Data Science

Nationality: Malaysian 

Q1: Can you talk about yourself? 

I am Lee Zi Hooi from Peneng, Malaysia. I am a new student at XMUM majoring in Data Science. I started swimming at 4, but I stopped it for around two years because of the coronavirus and the MCO. XMUM gave me the chance to continue my hobby.

Q2: Why did you choose Xiamen University Malaysia?

I chose Xiamen University Malaysia because of its environment, not only the physical one but the academic environment. The swimming pool is my favourite because it is clean and large. For learning, the library and study rooms have great facilities for me to complete individual assignments and group work. I found some pictures on the Internet so I decided to study at XMUM.

Q3: What it is like to study at Xiamen University Malaysia?

There are two canteens, D6 and Ly3. I prefer D6 because there are different types of food which are suitable for students from all around the world. 

My deepest memory is about Orientation Day. The facilitator arranges a lot of activities for freshmen. We walked around the school and take part in many fantastic games which make us know more about the routes on campus.

Q4: Tell us your future plan!

I want to be more self-disciplined, making my heart stronger. Also, I want to learn more skills in the clubs of XMUM. After finishing the undergraduate course, I hope to go to China for further study.
