Fujian Province Governor Tang Dengjie Visited XMUM on 18 Sep 2018
Fujian Province Governor Tang Dengjie visited Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on 18 September 2018.
Accompanied by Xiamen University (XMU) President Prof. Zhang Rong and XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang, Governor Tang was briefed about the development of XMUM and toured around the campus.
During the visit, Governor Tang and the Fujian delegation inspected several teaching and research laboratories of XMUM’s China-ASEAN College of Marine Science, which is supported by a funding of RMB 96 million from China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund and integrates education, scientific research, training and policy consultation.
Governor Tang also met with XMUM staff and student representatives, including several recipients of Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship. He encouraged the students to strive for excellence and grow up together with this young university, becoming talents with international outlook.
Governor Tang was deeply impressed by the achievements of XMUM and pointed out that XMUM services as an outstanding example of China-Malaysia friendship and the deep connection between Fujian Province and Malaysia. XMU was founded in 1921 by Malayan Chinese Mr Tan Kah Kee in Xiamen, Fujian, while about a century later, XMU came to Malaysia to establish XMUM as an act of historic reciprocation.
Governor Tang emphasized that Fujian Government would continue to provide strong support to XMUM, helping it to become a world-renowned university featuring first-class teaching and research and embracing cultural diversity.
