Sameeha Sahoba Siam, an alumnus from the Class of 2022, Xiamen University Malaysia, describes her study at XMUM as “one life-changing experience”. Stepping outside her comfort zone, she unleashed her true potential and gained self-awareness during her three years at the university.

“My time at XMUM was the best period of my life,” Sameeha recalled, “I enjoyed all my lectures - they went above and beyond to make sure the needs and requirements of all students are fulfilled.”

“From the awe-inspiring campus to the supportive community, I found myself constantly inspired and motivated to excel.”

“Though at first, I wanted to major in accounting, I found my true passion in Finance as XMUM provided me a choice to dive into a variety of courses closely aligned with my field of study,” she said, “I have also grown a fascination towards macroeconomics, which has broadened my understanding of the financial world.”

An international student who travelled solo for the first time, Sameeha thought that she was fortunate to come across compassionate individuals who extended their guidance and support along the way.

“In times of hardship, XMUM and my friends from Bangladesh residing in Malaysia extended their warm support making me feel like I already have a second family in this foreign land. Experiencing such a strong connection and sense of unity from everyone around me meant immensely to me.”

Meanwhile, by engaging in extracurricular activities, Sameeha learnt about the world beyond the classroom and honed a range of soft skills.

“I was able to develop new skills, broaden my perspectives and make a significant contribution to the university community.”

“These experiences greatly enriched my time at XMUM.”

During her time at XMUM, Sameeha embarked on 2 internships, one in Bangladesh at the National Bank of Pakistan and another one at CGN Edra KL, one of South East Asia's leading international independent power producers, where she worked in both Business Development and Finance Department.

“The opportunity to work in Edra came from my university where I got to know that the company was looking for employees for their project in Bangladesh,”

Sameeha introduced, “At Edra KL, the work culture is very professional and I love its multicultural environment where everyone's dedication is really admirable. I could finally implement all the theoretical knowledge I had learned in the real world.”

“I am incredibly happy with my work life at Edra. As we all know, China is one of the most influential and leading countries right now. Therefore, it brings me great pleasure to know that I am part of an eminent Chinese organization.”

Currently, Sameeha enjoys days at Edra Bangladesh which gives her “a sense of responsibility and independence.” She plans to continue working for Edra, while also considering further studies to enhance her credentials and advance her career development.

“Nothing worth having in life comes easy. You will eventually start living your dreams if you have patience and remain positive until they become a reality. It's important to be appreciative of your progress. On top of that, it is never too late to start anything that makes you happy.”

“Embrace the opportunities, engage in activities, build lasting friendships, and enjoy every aspect of the experience - Live life to the fullest so that you have no regrets afterwards.”
