Alumni Couple Returns to XMUM for Wedding Photoshoot
Xiamen University Malaysia was met with light evening rain on Tuesday as an alumni couple returned to campus for a wedding photoshoot, revisiting the site where their relationship first began.
The couple, Kui Wei Kai, a Class of 2025 Master's graduate in Chinese Studies and current Chinese language teacher, and How Yng Ye, a 2024 graduate in Traditional Chinese Medicine now working as a physician, first met during the orientation at XMUM. Their relationship developed from classmates to friends and later to partners over more than eight years.
Talking about their first encounter, Kui Wei Kai said, "She was very warm, and we started talking naturally." How Yng Ye added that she had noticed him early on during their orientation period, and their connection gradually deepened through later conversations.
The couple maintained their relationship through extended periods of distance, including disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and overseas internship, staying in contact through daily calls and video chats.
"Even something as simple as having a meal together made us happy," How Yng Ye said, describing their time apart and occasional reunions.
They also highlighted a staircase near the A5 building overlooking the campus lawn as a meaningful location during their time at university, where they often met during their studies.
After years of growing together through different stages of study, long-distance periods, and the beginning of their professional careers, the couple is now preparing for marriage. As they reflected on this new chapter, they felt it naturally led them back to where everything began.
The photoshoot concluded around 7.30pm, as the rain cleared and the sunset emerged over the campus, providing a natural backdrop to mark their return and the beginning of the new life journey.
