As indicated by YB Dr. Ong, with China’s increasing economic role in the global economy, China's macroeconomic forecast is a very important factor influencing regional and global economic outlook. Since 2006, XMU has been holding China's macroeconomic forecast conference twice a year and this is the first time that the event was held in Malaysia.

At the conference, Prof. Lin Zhiyuan from Centre for Macroeconomic Research, XMU, released “China’s Macroeconomic Forecasts and Policy Simulation for 2019 and 2020” and reported its policy implications based on simulation analysis, while Prof. Wang Yiming from the Centre released the Global Influence Index of RMB Exchange Rate.

Mr. Song Zhenyuan from Xinhua News Agency, then released the finding of this year’s “Economists Questionnaire Survey on China's Macroeconomic Outlook”, which is co-organized by Xiamen University and Economic Information Daily newspaper, Xinhua News Agency.

The participants of the conference also had the special privilege to hear Prof. Wan Guanghua from Fudan University sharing his insights on China’s Growth Prospect in the Medium Run, while Prof. Prof. Zeng Jinli from National University of Singapore discussed the Short Run and Long Run growth prospect of Chinese Economy.

As indicted by the subtitle of the event: Economic Forecast, High Quality Development, and Policy Implications, this roundtable provided a much-needed opportunity for academics and professionals from China, Malaysia and the Southeast Asia region to have a thought-provoking discussion on China's macroeconomic outlook and its policy implications.

XMU has been holding forecast conferences outside China since 2012. The previous overseas conferences have been co-organized with and held at Springer Publishing Group’s Headquarter in Heidelberg, Germany (2014), Kobe University, Japan (2015), Australian National University (2016), Oxford University (2017), and SOAS, the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (2018).
