XMUM Commemorates the 150th Anniversary of Tan Kah Kee's Birth with a Floral Tribute and Guangdong Alumni Donation Ceremony

0On 21 October 2024, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) held a floral tribute at the statue of Mr. Tan Kah Kee to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the university's founder. President Wang Ruifang and Assistant President Wang Huiqiong presented a flower basket on behalf of university staff and students, paying tribute to Tan Kah Kee and honoring his legacy.

Later in the day, the university hosted a donation ceremony for the Guangdong Alumni Association of Xiamen University. The association generously donated ¥300,000 to support the development of the Maker Space at XMUM, aimed at fostering talent cultivation, academic competitions, and innovation at the university.
Attendees at the donation ceremony included Huang Guodian, Chairman of the Xiamen University Guangdong Alumni Association; Wu Junlian, Executive Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Alumni Association; Lin Yuting, Secretary-General of the Guangdong Alumni Association; and President Wang Ruifang of XMUM. Representatives from the XMU Education Development Foundation, XMU alumni, as well as XMUM staff and students, were also present.

In his speech, Huang Guodian expressed the pride of the Guangdong Alumni Association in contributing to XMUM's Maker Space, emphasizing that every Xiamen University member carries the responsibility of preserving and promoting the spirit of Tan Kah Kee. He encouraged the XMUM community to uphold this legacy, stating, May our academic and professional achievements, like Xiamen University itself, continue to prosper.

President Wang Ruifang remarked that holding the donation ceremony on the 150th anniversary of Tan Kah Kee's birth added profound meaning to the occasion. Reflecting on XMUM's eight years of development, he credited the university's success to Tan Kah Kee's enduring influence and the unwavering support of alumni. With more than 9,000 students from 48 countries currently enrolled, XMUM remains committed to spreading the spirit of Tan Kah Kee worldwide.

During the event, Huang Guodian and Wang Ruifang jointly unveiled the Maker Space, and Wang Ruifang presented a souvenir to the Guangdong Alumni Association on behalf of XMUM.
