On 1 March 2025, the Malaysia premiere of the documentary My Teacher and Me was held at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). This event held significant value in fostering cross-cultural exchange and strengthening educational collaboration between China and Malaysia.

Produced by the School of Film at Xiamen University, with participation from the New York Film Academy, the documentary comprises seven independent stories that highlight China's efforts and achievements in educational poverty alleviation. The film also pays tribute to Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the founder of Xiamen University, who played a crucial role in advancing education over a century ago.

As Xiamen University's only overseas campus, XMUM is committed to promoting academic collaboration and talent exchange between China and Malaysia. This premiere not only showcased China's initiatives in educational poverty alleviation but also provided XMUM faculty and students with an opportunity to gain deeper insights into these efforts and appreciate the enduring legacy of Tan Kah Kee's spirit.

The premiere was attended by Zhang Rong, Chairman of XMU Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Wang Ruifang, President of XMUM, and Zhang Ying, Vice President of XMUM. As the film's chief advisor, Zhang Rong delivered a speech on behalf of the producers.

My Teacher and Me has been invited to major film festivals such as the Golden Rooster Awards, the Silk Road International Film Festival, the Beijing International Film Festival, and the Maritime Silk Road Documentary Conference. The film was also recommended by the Chinese Consulate General in New York for a China-U.S. friendship event organized by the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. Following its North American premiere in Los Angeles, the film is set to be screened in the United Kingdom, France, New Zealand, Japan, and other countries. In July, it will be showcased in Singapore to commemorate the 35th anniversary of China-Singapore diplomatic relations.
