International Speedcubers Gather for XMUM Cube Open
On 28 February and 1 March 2026, 170 local and international speedcubers from Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Germany, South Korea, Turkmenistan and the United States gathered at Xiamen University Malaysia, to compete in the XMUM Cube Open 2026 (XCO26).
Competitive speedcubing is a sport that involves solving a Rubik's Cube or other twisty puzzles as quickly as possible. The competition was organised by the XCO26 Organising Committee of the XMUM Rubik's Club and was officially recognised by the World Cube Association (WCA), with the support of the Malaysia Cube Sports Association (MYCSA). The main sponsor of the competition was MoYu Culture, a leading manufacturer of high-quality twisty puzzles.
The competition featured 13 official events, including 3x3x3 Cube, 2x2x2 Cube, 4x4x4 Cube, 5x5x5 Cube, 6x6x6 Cube, 7x7x7 Cube, 3x3x3 Blindfolded, 3x3x3 One-Handed, Clock, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb and Square-1. The event also featured booths where participants could take part in mini-challenges, with a lucky draw offering additional prizes.
In the main event, the 3x3x3 Cube, speedcuber Zijian Cai from China won with an average time of 7.07 seconds. Several national records were also set by competitors from different countries during the competition. During the award ceremony, the top three competitors in each event received medals, certificates and sponsored prizes from MoYu Culture.
