XMUM Hosts French Embassy Delegation for Cultural and Academic Exchange

On 11 March 2026, the English Department at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) hosted a visit from the Embassy of France in Malaysia. The representatives, Mr. Dominique Husken-Ulbrich (Attaché for the French Language) and Ms. Marie Cunchon (French language officer), engaged with XMUM students to share upcoming cultural activities, DELF (French language proficiency) exams, and educational pathways in France.

The visit began with a guided campus tour led by Year 3 students Tan Ming Kheng and Lai Mei Hui. Tan Ming Kheng conducted the tour in French, while Mr. Husken-Ulbrich demonstrated a profound knowledge of the university's history and shared stories about its founder, Mr. Tan Kah Kee.

During the sharing session, Ms. Cunchon introduced upcoming French events held by Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur and provided details about the DELF examinations.

In the Q&A session, students drew on Mr. Husken-Ulbrich's expertise, learning about French academic life and practical aspects of studying and living in France.

The event sparked enthusiasm among students, especially those enrolled in the "French for Communication" courses, many of whom expressed interest in pursuing further language studies.

Reflecting on the experience, Tan Ming Kheng remarked:

"Leading the tour in French was an invaluable opportunity to practice communication. I was particularly struck by Mr. Husken-Ulbrich’s knowledge of XMUM and Mr. Tan Kah Kee's legacy. It reminded me that learning a language is not just about linguistics, but a way to explore another culture."
