Department of English Greets New Members with an “Ode to New Start”

On 19 September 2021, Department of English held an online party to welcome the new joiners, as well as to celebrate the coming of a new semester.
Dr. Song Jiayang, HOD of Department of English and student representative Tan Bun Keat delivered speeches, giving wishes and advice to the fellow Department members, while lecturers introduced their courses to new students. This was followed by a series of performances and a Q&A session. At the climax of the party, Dr. Song Jiayang sang an old song “Blowing in the Wind”.
“The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind, If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?” The evening ended with a recital of Percy Shelley’s “Ode to the West Wind”. With this event, the Department hopes to convey good wishes to all staff and students, celebrating a fresh new start in the time of challenge.
