With the theme “Soar to Success”, Xiamen University Malaysia held its very first campus career fair on 9 May this year, with participation from 45 top industry leaders, providing more than 300 employment opportunities and 100 internship placements for the students.

The one-stop career fair hopes to promote engagement with key industry partners and the university, and to open fresh windows of opportunity to students where they can gain more information on potential employers and explore employment prospects.

The objective is to afford students a global platform of leading industries, with participants from multinational corporations such as Deloitte, Ernst & Young and DHL Express, as well as reputable Chinese enterprises like China State Construction, Vivo and Yon You The event offers an insightful treat to a plethora of industries covering those from banking, consulting, construction, real-estate, software and chemical engineering. One-fourth of the participants are Chinese enterprises.

Mr. Heng Hua Teck, director of Student Recruitment and Student Affairs of Xiamen University Malaysia, said. “Since the establishment of the offshore Chinese campus, we have always focused on academic quality, course relevance and employability of our graduates. We want to produce graduates who can contribute significantly to the workforce, be it local or global, and engagement with industry partners is crucial.”

To equip students with the necessary skills for internship, career placement and professional development, the Career Services Department organizes workshops on resume writing, interview tips, and professional grooming, apart from its regular career talks and mock interview sessions.

“We seek to train and provide more international and interdisciplinary talents for the “One Belt One Road” Initiative. Our aim is to understand and work out feasible pathways where our students’ employment needs could align with that of the industry. As such, the university will carry out diversified employment placement services and activities for students from different backgrounds,” Mr Heng added.

Located in the luxurious Sunsuria township, Xiamen University Malaysia is the first branch campus of the reputable Xiamen University in China. It offers 15 undergraduate programmes, two foundation programmes, and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme. There are currently about 4560 students from 25 countries studying in the local campus. This number is expected to exceed 5000 by the end of this September.
