Center for Postgraduate Studies and Research (CPSR) congratulates undergraduate student Goh Shu Hua, master’s student Lau Hui Shen, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yong Wai Fen from Department of Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia on their publication in Small, a Tier-1 journal with an impact factor of 13.281.
The review is entitled “Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-based mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for gas separation: A review on advanced materials in harsh environment applications”. Membrane separation is one of the indispensable gas purification technologies that effectively reduce carbon footprint, and MOFs are recognized as promising fillers embedded in MMMs to enhance gas separation performance. In this review, the authors summarized the application and gas separation performance of MOFs-based MMMs, including those of advanced MOFs materials. The latest exploration of MOFs materials for harsh operating conditions is emphasized, and the challenges in the development of MMMs are critically analyzed.

“I would like to thank my supervisor, Dr. Yong for her guidance on my final year project and on producing this review paper. This research project has sharpened my research and analytical skills, and taught me the importance of gas separation with membrane technology for resolving industry hurdles and the critical issues of environmental pollution,” said Goh Shu Hua.
“The process of producing a review article is an arduous task. However, it is a fruitful experience that taught me the importance of critical thinking, time and project management, which are particularly relevant for a postgraduate student like me. I hope this paper could provide a different perspective for researchers to explore the field of sustainable energy and environmental remediation,” said Lau Hui Shen.
