Dr. Hue Guan Thye & Chinese Studies Students Publish in SCI Q1 Journal

Center for Postgraduate Studies and Research (CPSR) congratulates Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hue Guan Thye, undergraduate student Tang Chang and master’s student Klan Choo Juhn Khai from Department of Chinese Studies and Center for Research on Southeast Asian Chinese Documents (CRSACD), Xiamen University Malaysia, on their publication of an article in Religions, an SCI-Q1 journal focusing on comprehensive studies of religious thought and practice. Dr. Hue Guan Thye, Director of CRSACD, is the first and corresponding author of this article.

Lee Choon Seng (Chinese: 李俊承) is a prominent lay Buddhist leader in Singapore and the broader Chinese Buddhist world. Entitled “The Buddhist Philanthropist: The Life and Times of Lee Choon Seng”, this article demonstrates Lee Choon Seng’s significant influence in society and his adherence to Chinese Mahayana Buddhism. According to the researchers, Lee Choon Seng’s socio-religious model made outstanding contributions to the promotion of Buddhism among the Chinese community in Singapore, as well as the development of local social philanthropy.

About Dr. Hue Guan Thye

Dr. Hue Guan Thye is an Associate Professor of Chinese History at XMUM Department of Chinese Studies and the Director of Centre for Research on Southeast Asian Chinese Documents (CRSACD). Dr. Hue obtained his PhD in Chinese Tradition Culture from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His research interests include History of Chinese in Southeast Asia, Buddhism, Taoism and Chinese popular religion in Singapore and Malaysia.
