BIOGRAPHY

Swee Tiam Tan received his B.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2003 and 2007, respectively. From 2007 to 2010, he was with the Institute of Microelectronics, A*STAR, Singapore, where he spearheaded the ZnO thin film research by world-first commercial MOCVD system. From 2010 to 2020, he was with the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where he was the Founding Member and Programme Manager for LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays. In 2020, Dr. Tan named Expert Returnee by TalentCorp Malaysia and returned to his home country joining Xiamen University Malaysia as Associate Professor at School of Energy and Chemical Engineering. Dr. Tan has successfully executed and managed several large-scale research projects with funding exceeded US$ 40 millions. He has published over 100 top-tier peer-reviewed SCI journal publications with h-index of 40 and i-index of 92 (Google Scholar). One of his scientific journal articles has been cited for more than 750 times, and his annual citations have now exceeded 550 cites per year. His scientific research work, together with strong innovation in LED material and device designs, has generated a strong IP portfolio (over 30 international patents and related know-how, in which 16 patents were granted) and a spin-off. His spin-off company is also receiving several awards including the most potential for investment award and best business model award. His inventions are now attracting a high level of interest in the international arena especially in the sectors of high-end LED lighting, automotive LED headlamps and ultra-violet LEDs as well as micro-LEDs in the display industry.
