Prof. Ong Wee Jun Featured in Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher List

2025-11-15

Prof. Ong Wee Jun, the Director of Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT) and the Assistant Dean from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), was selected as a 2025 Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate (Web of Science) (Cross-Field), as one of the 4 awardees from Malaysia this year.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Prof. Ong Wee Jun has earned this honor, reflecting his work in nanomaterials and clean energy research. Since 2013, Prof. Ong Wee Jun has published over 170 SCI articles and 3 book chapters, with an h-index of 74 and a total of over 27,300 citations. Among all his publications, 24 of his works were selected as Web of Science Top 1% Highly Cited Paper.

In 2025, 6,868 scientists from 60 countries and regions were included, following a rigorous selection process that combines quantitative metrics with qualitative analysis. Being highly cited in the papers of other researchers is an indication of the influence of a scientist's published work on the greater scientific community.

Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers list recognizes scientists whose research ranks among the top 1% worldwide, based on citation data from the Web of Science Core Collection over the past decade.

11 other scholars from Xiamen University, China won this recognition for their outstanding research achievements.

Prof. Ong Wee Jun expressed his gratitude upon being named a Clarivate Global Highly Cited Researcher for the seventh consecutive year. Reflecting on this milestone, he said:

"This recognition is not mine alone. It belongs to my dedicated team members, postgraduate students, collaborators, mentors, friends, and family who have walked this path with me."

He also shared a message for his students and young researchers:

"Always remember: quality comes first, and quantity will rise naturally in its wake. True impact is not defined by the number of papers, but by the depth of ideas and how they inspire progress."

Prof. Ong Wee Jun now serves as a Professor in the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia. He is also the Director of Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT).

His research focuses on advanced nanomaterials for catalysis and energy-related applications, including water splitting, COreduction, and sustainable chemical synthesis. He has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2019-2025) and listed among the world's top 2% scientists by Stanford University (2020-2024).
