On 7 November 2025, four students from the English Language and Literature programme, who are also taking French as a major elective and second foreign language, represented Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) in WikiSelera 2025: Francophone Gastronomy.

Organised by Wikimedia Malaysia in collaboration with the French Embassy in Malaysia and Alliance Française Kuala Lumpur, the event aimed to produce a bilingual Malay-French recipe book on Francophone cuisine, giving participants the opportunity to explore Francophone culture while contributing to global open knowledge.

During the session, students participated in a Wikibook editing workshop focused on French gastronomy and collaborated with French language learners from the University of Malaya, Nottingham University, and Sunway University. Guided by instructors and volunteers, they learned source verification, objective writing techniques, and multilingual editing across English, Malay, and French.

Students described the experience as both meaningful and motivating.

Jin Shuo, a year 3 student, shared that every edit he made "felt like it was being transformed into knowledge accessible to thousands around the world", while Wang Ziye noted that researching French dishes "naturally combined language learning with cultural experience", giving her a clearer understanding of Francophone culinary traditions.
