During 3-4 December 2022, the Department of Journalism and Advertising, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) hosted the 2nd International Conference on Media Science and Digital Communication (MSDC) 2022 virtually, with the theme Resistance and Responsibility.
MSDC aims to provide a venue to showcase the latest research outcomes signifying the imperative need to change and adapt to a world impacted by the pandemic/endemic. Resilience is the ability to resist being affected and responsibility is our obligation. This conference addresses these two dimensions in diverse forms by bringing disciplines, industries, nations, cultures, and most importantly people together again.
President of Xiamen University Malaysia, Prof. Wang Ruifang delivered his opening speech virtually on the first day of the conference.
The conference’s keynote speakers came from both international academics and relevant industrial sectors. The three keynote speakers are Prof. Dr. Rowena Capulong Reyes, the Dean of the Institute of Arts and Sciences of Far Eastern University (FEU), Philippines, Mr. Tan Kien Eng, Group CEO of Dentsu International Malaysia, and Ms. Joanne Goh, the Founder & CEO of Malaysia International Film Festival and Global Golden Awards.
This year, over 75 participants from 15 countries shared their research papers at the conference. Ng Wen Zhi, an undergraduate student from XMUM Advertising programme, has won the overall best presenter award. Her research title is “Consumer Intentions of Buying Organic or Non-Organic Body Wash Brands in Malaysia”.
Other activities at the MSDC included a workshop presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Cizmeci Umit (Yalova University, Turkey) on the topic of Social Media Trends and the Morality of Youth as well as a publication workshop by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wang Changsong (Xiamen University Malaysia) on How to Prepare a Manuscript for the Journal.
The Conference Chair, Associate Professor Dr. Wang Changsong, Head of the Department of Journalism and Advertising, initiated the idea of the Conference on Media Science and Digital Communication in 2019. This is the second year that the international conference has been co-hosted by XMUM and the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka.
