Dr. Ma Xiaofeng Publishes A Study of the Inscriptions on Bronze in Song Dynasty

Recently, A Study of the Inscriptions on Bronze in Song Dynasty authored by Dr. Ma Xiaofeng from Department of Chinese Studies, Xiamen University Malaysia, has been published by the Commercial Press, a leading cultural and educational publisher in China.

Chinese bronze inscriptions, also called bronze script or bronzeware script, are a variety of Chinese scripts written on ritual bronzes from the Shang dynasty to the Qin Dynasty. By reviewing the study of bronze inscriptions in the Song Dynasty, Dr. Ma Xiaofeng analyzed the interpretation methods used by scholars in the Song Dynasty, their achievements and failures in bronze inscriptions study, as well as their impact on scholars in subsequent dynasties. 

Over 600 bronze inscriptions have been interpreted in the Song Dynasty,” said Dr. Ma Xiaofeng, “It is the scientific methods of interpretation consciously adopted by Song scholars that led to this achievement.”

It also worth mentioning that Song scholars have made groundbreaking contributions to artifacts study, leaving a precious asset to today’s academia.”

Dr. Ma Xiaofeng is an Assistant Professor of Department of Chinese Studies, Xiamen University Malaysia. Before joining XMUM, she has worked for Shaanxi Normal University and the Confucius Institute at Istanbul Okan University. Her research interests include classical Chinese literature, Chinese characters, as well as teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
