7 XMUM Academics Recognized by Stanford as World’s Top 2% Scientists 2021

Seven faculty members of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) have been listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists 2021 by Stanford University, placing Xiamen University Malaysia in the global map of scientific research excellence.

These academics are from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, Innovation Center, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Department of Physics. Their research fields cover Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Applied Physics, Complementary & Alternative Medicine, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, and General & Internal Medicine.

Every year, Stanford University releases data for the world’s top 2% of researchers based on the citations of their publications. All researchers are categorized into 22 fields and 176 subfields, while career-long data is updated to the end-of-2020.

Led by Prof. John P.A. Ioannidis from Stanford University, the list was created by analyzing the common citation indicators - including H-index, co-authorship, and the composite indicator for career-long impact - of over 100,000 scientists.

Below are the details of the 7 academics:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun is from Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, XMUM. He is also the Director of XMUM Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT). His expertise includes photocatalysis, photoelectrocatalysis, electrocatalysis and thermal catalysis for clean energy applications using 2D nanostructures.

  • Prof. Zheng Jincheng is the Director of Innovation Center at XMUM. A Minjiang Scholar at Xiamen University (China), he has made great contribution and commitment to Physics and Energy.

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeap Swee Keong is currently serving as the Assistant Dean of China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, XMUM. He has published more than 200 research and review articles in SCI journals in the field of Immunology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Natural Products, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology. 

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kurnia Tonni Agustonio from China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, XMUM, is listed under the subfield of Environmental Sciences.  Specializing in water treatment and waste management, he has published over 100 articles in SCI-indexed journals, conference proceedings, book chapters, and monographs.

  • Dr. Chew Kit Wayne is a lecturer from Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, XMUM. His current research covers chemical and biochemical engineering, sustainability, bioprocess engineering design and renewable energy.

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kim Yun Jin is the Programme Coordinator of School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, XMUM. His research interests encompass global burden of disease, clinical trials for complementary and alternative medicine, and neurology.

  • Prof. Ong Chong Kim is the Head of Department of Physics at XMUM. In the past several decades, he has published more than 600 papers with a H-index of 49 in the Web of Science.
