The 2nd China-Malaysia Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

Background 

The 2nd China-Malaysia Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition), is initiated by the Promotion Association for Global Youth Innovation Leaders Community (PILC) and organized by Xiamen University Malaysia, Platform for China-Malaysia Joint Research and Demonstration of Solid State Lighting Technology, TusStar Malaysia, and Koperasi Graduan Muda Kebangsaan Berhad (KoGRAD), and co-organized by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and UCSI University. The 1st China-Malaysia Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held in 2019 and has been authorized to serve as the regional preliminary round for the international track of the 5th China College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (2019) organized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

The Competition aims to stimulate university students' enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship, to promote the international integration of innovation and entrepreneurship education as well as to exchange and share of resources related to innovation and entrepreneurship (such as projects, investment, and market), and build a cooperation platform for university students to solve global challenges.

Students who are passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship are invited to join this event. 


Requirements for Project Entered

1. The projects entered shall apply new-generation information technology such as mobile Internet, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, next-generation communication technology, and block chain to economic and social fields to serve the construction of new infrastructure, and develop new products, services, business types, and models; bring into play the role of the Internet in driving industrial upgrading as well as the integration of informatization and industrialization; promote the transformation and upgrading of the industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, energy, and environmental protection; leverage the role of the Internet in social services, innovate network service models, and promote the integration of the Internet with education, medical care, transport, finance, and consumption for living.

2.   The projects entered must be actual, ethical, legal, and free of harmful information; shall aim to promote positive energy; and must not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others. All inventions, patented technologies, and resources involved must have clear legal intellectual property rights or property rights. Entrants who submit plagiarized, pirated or false entries will be disqualified and bear all legal liabilities.

3.   If the project entered involves the intellectual property rights of others, the entrant is required to submit in writing and in its entirety a legally valid letter of authorization from the intellectual property rights owner. If the project entered involves a company registered with the supervising authority, the entrant is required to submit photocopies of the business license, certificate of registration, organization code certificate, etc. as well as the business profile, information on the legal representative, equity structure, etc. Entrants can also submit documents on the entries’ financial status, investment obtained, jobs created, etc. We advise entrants to provide the credentials such as investment agreement and certificate of investment payment if: the project entered has received an investment of over 10 million yuan; or the project entered has received an annual income of 10 million yuan and above in or before 2020.

4.   All projects entered must abide by the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese laws and regulations; show respect for the Chinese culture; and comply with public morals.

5.   Projects that have won the Gold or Silver Awards in previous sessions of this Competition are not eligible this   year.

6.    Entrants must be under 35 years old (born after March 1, 1986).


How to Participate

1.  This Competition only accepts team entries. All entrants must enter in teams of 2 to 15 people (team leader included). A team may be formed by members from more than one university/college worldwide. All entrants must be core members of the project entered.

2.  All entrants must be students who are currently enrolled at a university/college or those who have graduated within the past 5 years. The application should be submitted by the leader of the participating team. The participating university/college refers to the university/college which the team leader is currently enrolled at or has graduated from. Team leader must be a student enrolled at a university/college from China or Malaysia. Participants from different countries (local or overseas) are allowed to form a team.

3.   All projects entered will be divided into Business Enterprise Group, and Social Enterprise Group. Requirements for each category are as follows:

a.   Business Enterprise Group

1)    Original ideas, technologies, products or business models etc. with clear business plan.

2)    Entrepreneurial projects, whether having registered companies or not, can participate in the   Competition.

3)    For projects without completed business registration and other type of registration, the applicant   must be the team leader, and the team leader must be current students.

4)    For registered companies have completed business registration or other types of registration and   completed one or more rounds of equity investment, the applicant must be the legal representative   of the company.

b.   Social Enterprise Group

1)    The participating projects are supposed to address social challenges by commercial means, form a   positive, virtuous and sustainable operation mode, serve for the rural revitalization, community   development, help disadvantaged groups or focus on sustainable development as their purpose   and goal.

2)    Social projects, whether having registered companies or not, can participate in the Competition.

3)    For projects without completed business registration and other type of registration, the applicant   must be the team leader, and the team leader must be current students.

4)    For registered companies have completed business registration or other types of registration and   completed one or more rounds of equity investment, the applicant must be the legal representative   of the company.


Competition Rules

1.   The Competition will be divided into two stages of qualification review, and online evaluation.


Awards

1.   The entries will be shortlisted for Gold Award, Silver Award and Bronze Award.

2.   The winners will be announced on July 23, 2021.


Registration

1.  Entrants must register by filling in the registration form provided and submitting it along with the required attachments via email to Innovation Center (innovation@xmu.edu.my), Xiamen University Malaysia, with a subject line PARTICIPATION IN CHINA-MALAYSIA YOUTH COMPETITION.

2.   Registration is now open and close at 23:59 on July 16, 2021 (Malaysia Time).

4.   Entrants shall provide a business plan in PPT format and can also choose whether to provide a business plan in PDF format or a 1-minute video or both as supplement.

4.  To facilitate the review of qualifications, all team members must submit proof of academic status or diploma or shareholding before the closing date. Teams with mentors must also fill out the mentor’s information on the registration form.

5.    All entry materials should be in English.

1. The business model is complete and feasible in design, product or service maturity and market acceptance are high, and there is or will be external investment.

2. In terms of business performance, such as registered companies, focus on project duration, operating income, corporate profits, sustained profitability, market share, customer (user) situation, input-output ratio, etc.

3. In terms of growth potential, we will focus on the project's target market capacity and scalability, and whether there are suitable plans and reliable resources (human resources, capital, technology, etc.) to support its continued rapid growth in the future.

4. In terms of cash flow and financing, focus on maintaining the cash flow of normal business operations, as well as corporate financing needs and capital use planning.
