Dr. Yip Chi Kiong Wins Malaysia Toray Science Foundation Award 2020

Research Management Center congratulates Dr. Yip Chi Kiong from School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia for receiving a RM 2,000 consolation prize from Malaysia Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) under the Science Education Award (SEA) category on 25 September 2020.

This award is for his research “Using Internet of Things (IoT) to conduct risky experiments in a protected environment”. Under the control of an ESP32 microcontroller, it utilizes an apparatus with a Web Server to conduct experiments that may be risky to the experimenter. When connected to Wi-Fi, the device can be operated by a remote PC or smartphone within a distance.  

MTSF aims to contribute to a firm foundation for scientific and technological progress by supporting national scientific and technological advancement. For 2020, 27 researchers were given awards and grants worth a total of RM 313,000.  

This is the second time that Dr. Yip Chi Kiong has received MTSF Award. In 2019, he was granted the same prize for his research “Controlling a Greenhouse using Sensors for Optimum Growth of Plants”.
