Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering has been named by Web of Science Group, Clarivate, as one of its Highly Cited Researchers in 2020.

The highly anticipated annual list of Highly Cited Researchers identifies researchers who have demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science citation index. 

In 2020, fewer than 6,200, or about 0.1%, of the world's researchers, in 21 research fields and across multiple fields, have earned this exclusive distinction. In Malaysia, a total of 13 scientists have been named to this prestigious list.

This is the second year that Dr. Ong has been included in this list for his publications, which have an outsized influence across several fields.

Five other Xiamen University academics won this prestigious recognition for their research achievements as well.

About Dr. Ong Wee Jun

Dr. Ong Wee Jun is currently an Associate Professor with the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, XMUM. He has won several prestigious awards since joining XMUM in 2018, including the Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment, Young Researcher Award from Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Green Talent Award presented by the German government. He has been named as a “Global Highly Cited Researcher” by Clarivate Analytics (the Web of Science Group) for year 2019 and 2020. Currently, he serves as the Chief Editor, Associate Editor, Guest Editor, and Board Member of Frontiers in Nanotechnology, Frontiers in Chemistry, Materials Horizons, Langmuir, Scientific Reports, and Nanotechnology, respectively.
