Prof. Wang Xiaomei from XMUM Department of Chinese Studies has guest-edited a special issue of Global Chinese (Vol. 6, Issue 1, 2020), a journal published by De Gruyter, on studies of Malaysian Mandarin.

This special issue is a collection of papers presented at the “Forum on Studies of Malaysian Mandarin” organized by XMUM Department of Chinese Studies in October 2019. Scholars from local and international higher education institutions - including University of Malaya, Xiamen University Malaysia, Jinan University and Beijing Normal University - attended the Forum and participated in a thorough discussion on Malaysian Mandarin studies.

It was worth mentioning that Dr. Khoo Kiak Uei, Dr. Choo Yuen, and Dr. Gan Yee Chin from XMUM Department of Chinese Studies also presented papers at the Forum.

According to Prof. Wang Xiaomei, the main purpose of this Forum was to encourage local research and promote better communications with international academic communities. She believes that the academic output of Malaysian Mandarin will contribute to the understanding of modern Chinese language and global Chinese as well.
