Innovation Talk Series #9 | Precision Motion Control in Revolutionary Medical Technology

 Innovation Talk Series #9 was held on 10 July 2019 by Innovation Center and Research Management Center to introduce the theory of precision motion control and its application in revolutionary medical technology to XMUM students and staff.  

The talk featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kok Kiong from Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore as the guest speaker. Dr. Tan’s research interests include precision motion control and instrumentation with applications in medical technology and manufacturing, advanced process control and auto-tuning, smart automation and general industrial automation.

During the speech, Dr. Tan introduced VTA, an automated surgical device which is able to transform a typical surgical procedure for the treatment of Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) ear disease into an office-based procedure. Dr. Tan had brought the audience through the journey from concept to product, showing the technology used in this active medical device.
