Skill, Experience and Environment, every entrepreneur should possess these three elements of innovation ability - this is the core idea shared by guest speaker Mr. Shang Pengbo to XMUM students during the Innovation Talk Series #6 on 17 April 2019.

Mr. Shang Pengbo is a training expert in innovative entrepreneurship from China. He was invited to deliver a talk on “Interpretation and Preparation Strategy of College Students' Entrepreneurial Competition” at XMUM, while coaching different groups of students for “Internet+ competition.

“Entrepreneurship can be taught, but innovation cannot be taught,” said Mr. Shang. He encouraged all students to be creative in developing business ideas and be brave in making them happen.

The second speaker was Dr. Lim Wee Kiat, a Senior Research Fellow from Asian Business Case Centre. In the speech, Dr. Lim shared with the students the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of work and society. Meanwhile, he talked about skills and mindsets that the youth should acquire during their study at university, to prepare themselves for a more AI-oriented world.

During the talk, Dr. Lim encouraged students’ thinking by throwing questions like:

“What problem would you like to solve?”

“Are you building the skills to solve the problems?”

“Are you building your ability to bounce back?”

In the meantime, Dr. Lim advised the students to be techno-pragmatic and to redesign man-machine interaction for their own projects.

Dr. Lim Wee Kiat highlighted some insights about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) with the audience.

During the period of their visit, Mr. Shang Pengbo and Dr. Lim Wee Kiat also gave one-to-one coaching sessions to teams participating in Internet+ competition, which helped to improve the students’ innovative ideas.

Hosted by XMUM Office of Research and Innovation, the Innovation Talk Series #6 was one of the activities of 2019 Overseas Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week, an initiative by National Development and Reform Commission of the P.R. China and China Association for Science and Technology.
