Dr. Ong Wee Jun Receives Materials Horizons 2018 Outstanding Paper Award

The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Assistant Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for receiving the inaugural Materials Horizons 2018 Outstanding Paper" award on 15 April 2019. The award was reviewed and chosen by the journal's Editorial and Advisory Board members based on the scientific finding presented and potential future impact. The current impact factor of Materials Horizons is 13.183, ranking 14th out of 285 journals in the field of materials science.   

The winning review article entitled “Photocatalytic fixation of nitrogen to ammonia: state-of-the-art advancement and future prospects”. In this outstanding review, the authors provide an overview of recent developments in ammonia synthesis technology and a blueprint for further investigations into the next generation catalyst design involving photocatalytic nitrogen fixation and ammonia synthesis. This can potentially serve as a substitute to the traditional Haber–Bosch process under high temperature and pressure in industry. This review article is one of the ESI Top 1% Highly Cited Papers, which has been cited for over 80 times. Dr. Ong is one of its corresponding authors. Other coauthors are PhD candidate Ms. Chen Xingzhu and Prof. Li Neng, both from State Key Laboratory of Silicate Materials for Architectures, Wuhan University of Technology.

About Dr. Ong Wee Jun

Dr. Ong Wee Jun is an Assistant Professor from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, XMUM. He has authored more than 50 papers published in Chemical Reviews, Chem, Materials Horizons, Nano Energy, ACS Nano, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, Nano Research, Nanoscale, etc, among which over 18 are ESI Top 1% Highly Cited Papers and Top 0.1% Hot Papers. He has a total citation of over 4,600 with a H-index of 29. Dr. Ong Wee Jun has been the Lead Guest Editor of several Special Issues in Solar RRL, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Chemistry – A European Journal, Particle & Particle Systems Characterization, Nanotechnology and Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. Currently, he serves as the Associate Editor of Frontiers in Chemistry and Frontiers in Materials, Community Board Member of Materials Horizons, and Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports, Nanotechnology and Nano Futures. Dr. Ong is currently on a 3-months research attachment as a Visiting Scientist in the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (CFAED) in Prof. Xinliang Feng's group at Technische Universität Dresden, Germany in conjunction with the 2018 Green Talent Award.
