In an effort to explore innovative approaches to education, XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, in collaboration with the Kelip-kelip! Center of Excellence for Light Enabling Technologies, hosted an engaging talk named "Integration of Digital Technology in Building a Sustainable Learning Community" on 18 December 2023.

The event featured Dr. Fung Fun Man, a distinguished educator from Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore (NUS).

During the talk, the attendees were given the opportunity to put their memory to the test via an activity that challenged their thoughts on the skillset of re-reading and introduced them to the concept of “Illusion of Learning”. Dr. Fung also highlighted several of his team’s efforts in enhancing the teaching and learning of Chemistry, namely ChemPOV, NuPOV and Viva la Vida.

About the Speaker

Dr. Fung Fun Man is a Singaporean educator from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He served on the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Committee on Chemistry Education as National Representative of Singapore. Since 2022, he is an elected Council Member of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC). Under his leadership, the NUS team behind the online multiplayer game “ChemPOV” has recently won the Gold Award at the eLearning Forum Asia 2023. He has been awarded the Xilong Scientific-SNIC Industry Award in Chemistry Education in 2022. Since 2021, he served on the editorial advisory board at the Journal of Chemical Education, a publication of the American Chemical Society and DivCHED.
