SEM Lecturers Publish in Journal of Cleaner Production, a Tier 1 Journal


The Center for Postgraduate Studies and Research congratulates Associate Professor Dr. Sayyed Mahdi Ziaei and Associate Professor Dr. Kenneth R. Szulczyk from XMUM School of Economics and Management (SEM) for their recent publication in the Journal of Cleaner Production, an SCI Tier 1 journal with a latest impact factor of 9.297.

Entitled “Estimating the Potential of Algal Biodiesel to Improve the Environment and Mitigate Palm Oil Mill Effluents in Malaysia”, this paper aims to assess the economic impact of algal farms utilizing Palm Oil Mill Effluents (POME) on the agricultural markets. To investigate the economic feasibility of biodiesel made from microalgae, this study employs a partial equilibrium model of Malaysia’s agricultural sector.

About the authors:

Dr. Sayyed Mahdi Ziaei is an Associate Professor of Financial Economics at the School of Economics and Management, Xiamen University of Malaysia. Much of his research focuses on monetary and fiscal studies, Financial Economics, and Energy Economics. He has published over 35 papers in SSCI, ABS, and/or ABDC-listed Journals. According to the IDEAS assessment, Dr. Ziaei is on the list of the Top 25% Economists in Malaysia (ranked 49 -March 2022) based on publications in the last 10 years.

Dr. Kenneth R. Szulczyk started teaching at Xiamen University Malaysia in September 2019. After completing his Ph.D. Degree at Texas A&M University in 2007, he has taught at universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and the United States, respectively.  His research has been featured in a variety of journals, such as Sustainable and Renewable Energy ReviewsJournal of Cleaner ProductionEmpirical EconomicsApplied Economics, and Wirtschaftswoche.
