Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) is ranked among global top 1% in the Clinical Medicine discipline, according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) ranking released in January 2021.
This is the first discipline of the University that has entered the ranking.
A total of 4,904 institutions worldwide and 13 institutions in Malaysia have been included in the top 1% of ESI global ranking of the said discipline.
Since its establishment, XMUM has published 37 Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE)/Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) research papers in Clinical Medicine with a total citation of 4,685, 126.62 times per paper in average. 10 of the 37 papers have been listed as top papers in terms of the times of citation.

This breakthrough is a fruit of XMUM’s continuous efforts in scientific research and academic development.
Based on the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Web of Science database - including Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) - ESI is an analytical tool that identifies top-performing papers across 22 academic disciplines. At present, it is used as one of the most universal evaluation indexes by universities and scientific research institutions globally.
