​Dr. Andrew Ng Kay Lup Receives ACYLS 2020 Award


The Office of Research Management congratulates Dr. Andrew Ng Kay Lup from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for being chosen as the recipient of the ASEAN China Young Leaders Scholarship (ACYLS) 2020 Award.

The ACYLS award is an initiative funded by the Chinese government to honour researchers and scientists for their commendable contributions to ASEAN member states. Each year, 20 professionals or researchers from ASEAN member states will be honoured by the award, in order to promote academic and vocational exchanges between China and ASEAN.

As an ACYLS award recipient, Dr. Andrew Ng Kay Lup will be invited to Zhejiang University, China for academic and research collaborations, during which he will work with Prof. Yang Yongrong1 and Associate Professor Liao Zuwei2 on naphtha steam cracking and several Sinopec based reaction engineering projects.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Andrew Ng Kay Lup is also a recipient of Green Talents 2019 Award by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). With this award, Dr. Kay Lup is currently collaborating with Prof. Dr. Johannes Lercher3 and his group from the Technical University of Munich on the study of heterogeneous catalysis, hydrogenation/hydrogenolysis mechanisms and aqueous phase biomass conversions.

So far, XMUM has 3 Green Talents awardees. The other two are Associate Professor Dr. Yong Wai Fen and Associate Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, who were granted the Award in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Dr. Andrew Ng Kay Lup’s research focuses on the pseudocapacitance of organic polymeric perovskites for supercapacitor applications.
