19 students from the Chemical Engineering Programme of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) have recently finished a 3-month research stay at Xiamen University (XMU), during which they worked closely with faculty members, PhD and Master students in research laboratories at XMU Xiang’an Campus.

As third- or fourth- year students, they took this time to conduct laboratory work regarding catalysts, single-molecule charge transport studies, oxidation resistance, lithium-sulphur batteries, electro-catalysts materials for electro-chemical water splitting, lignin-based carbon nanofiber for battery, etc.

They also enjoyed the unique opportunity to attend Prof. Hong Wenjing’s Scientific Research class and learned about writing techniques for scientific papers, presentation skills and how to develop scientific research projects.

Students’ testimony:

This was our first research stay. Despite many obstacles, it turned out to be very enjoyable and will definitely become the highlight of our undergraduate life. We had the opportunity to explore Chinese culture and participated in the Mid-Autumn Festival activity, which have broadened our horizon. It has also fostered a stronger bond among ours.
