Dr Noraini Binti Mohd is a lecturer in the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, XMUM. She has taught more than five courses including Process Control and Instrumentation (Course Coordinator), Plant Equipment Design and Chemical Engineering Laboratory courses.
Her primary research interest is in the area of advanced process modelling, simulation, optimisation and control of renewable energy. The production of renewable energy aided by the presence of computer simulation is playing an increasingly important role in both academics and industry. Such increasing reach is making the demand for robust process modelling and control of chemical process operations either pilot-scale or industrial-scale systems more stringent than ever. Failures or anomalies in controlling these systems can have enormous costs and serious consequences on production.
Investigating the principles underlying the design of such a robust process model, optimisation and control system as well as its implementation in a chemical plant is the general goal of her research. How to build a reliable process model and controller using limited information on process kinetics and parameters can derive high-performance process characteristics such as reliability, and efficiency are central that drive most of her research activities. Because chemical processes are complex, while industrial data are scarce, answering these questions requires good fundamental, careful design and implementation. She fully utilized theoretical analysis and computer simulation that allows the exploration of design parameters in various chemical processes and helps to understand the process under investigation.
