On 3 November 2025, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (STCM) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) successfully held the MoU Signing and Clinical Apprenticeship Standardization Seminar 2025. The event brought together representatives from 15 local TCM centres, marking a significant step forward in the enhancement of XMUM's off-campus clinical education network.
During the ceremony, the School signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with all participating centres to jointly promote clinical teaching, student attachment, and professional collaboration.
The MoU covers multiple areas including internal medicine, acupuncture, tuina, orthopedics, and gynecology. This collaboration not only continues the success of existing practice bases but also expands the network to include new centres with distinct specializations, offering students a more diverse and hands-on learning environment.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhang Ying, Vice President of XMUM, delivered the opening address. She commended STCM for its continuous effort in bridging academic learning with clinical practice and reaffirmed the university's commitment to supporting the high-quality development of TCM education in Malaysia.
To further strengthen the standard and exchange of clinical teaching, the event featured two keynote speakers: Dr. Zhang Chunfang, Chief Physician at Xiamen University Affiliated Xiang'an Hospital, and Dr. Ong Siew Siew from the International Medical University (IMU).
Dr. Zhang shared insights from Xiang'an Hospital's experience in implementing standardized and structured clinical teaching, while Dr. Ong discussed Malaysia's higher education teaching guidelines and quality assurance framework, offering valuable perspectives for future curriculum and pedagogical development at XMUM.
During the plaque presentation ceremony, Prof. Dr. Chen Shaodong, Dean of the School of TCM, expressed his appreciation to all partnered TCM centres for their long-term support.
The new partnerships will directly benefit students by enriching their clinical training opportunities. The clinical practice bases mainly serve Year 1 to Year 4 students, providing opportunities for early clinical observation and skills training before their final-year internship in China.
