EEE Students Win Gold Award at International Invention and Innovative Competition

A group of students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) achieved a Gold Award at the International Invention and Innovative Competition (InIIC) 2025, with their project "RF-based Occupancy Detection System in HVAC Applications for Urban Energy Efficiency".

The InIIC 2025, organized by MNNF Network in collaboration with MNNF Publisher, serves as an international platform for innovators and researchers to present their creative ideas and inventions under the theme "From Imagination to Innovation". 

Competing under Category B2: Higher Institution Students - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, the XMUM team, mentored by Ts. Dr. Kang Chia Chao, showcased exceptional work during the competition held on 25 October 2025. Their outstanding work was further recognized through its publication as a book chapter with an e-ISBN.

The four team members - Lim Li Chuin, Lucas Ng Gao Jie, Goh Ee Xian, and Elise Ng Xue Yi - showcased their innovative project on unified WiFi sensing for breath detection, which aimed to improve occupancy detection and energy efficiency in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system.
